The Playseat Evolution has been assembled and tested. Overall verdict: very good.

Assembly was a breeze, taking maybe 30 minutes in total. The instructions were only pictures and no words in any language, but it was straight forward and well thought out. The overall feel of the cockpit is one of quality; it doesn’t feel like a toy. My Thrustmaster TX wheel and pedals bolted right up to the mounting plates.

The end result is comfortable and solid. I don’t know that I would want to sit in it all day (although I may test that tomorrow as birthday week off work continues), but it has been fine for a couple of hours. This is a vast improvement over my janky old set up that was ergonomically horrible (involving an old textbook wedged between the pedals and the wall to keep them in a usable position) that was painful after more than an hour or so.

It also sits at an easy to pet level for doggos. Bonus for them. That level is a bit lower than I would desire for my desk, looking up slightly to the center of my monitor. I may shorten the legs on my old desk by 3-5 inches. This is the spare bedroom anyway, so janky furniture doesn’t bother me in here.

While there are certainly better cockpits out there, I’m a happy camper for $340. After a couple of practice sessions in F1 2018 this new set up is already yielding some dividends. This far superior setup has improved my brake modulation in particular.

The rest of my battle station continues to work well for my speedy 1080p monitor:

Fractal Design define R6 case, Ryzen 7 1700/MSI x470 gaming M7 AC set up, with an RX590 and 32GB of Corsair LPX ram at 3200mhz and a crucial MX500 SSD as the boot drive. I’ll consider a CPU upgrade to 2700X if they get cheap or take a look at a Ryzen 3000 later in the year. Maybe next year I’ll consider a big 1440p monitor if speedy ones come down in price some and more GPU to drive it.

It beats the hell out of my old set up, of which any chair with wheels was no go.

In regards to monitor, look into the MG279Q as its been on sale quite frequently; great display even if you dont plan on using the freesync. Otherwise Im in the same boat for cpu, though keep in mind if you plan on overclocking its not recommended you keep the x470.

That’s not bad on the monitor, although I’ve got a 27" currently. I’d probably want to upgrade to something in the 32" -34" range while I was at it. I haven’t read up too much on 2700X overclocking, but my flagship X470 board has handled overclocking my current 1700 with ease, although I’m running a very conservative 3.5ghz all core overclock cooled with a 280mm radiator.

Ive got a 1700X on a taichi x470 without issue but 3000 series is supposed to consume more power when pushed.

Damn that setup looks fun. When I ever get out of this tiny ass apartment I’m gonna do something like that cause F1 is super difficult with a controller
